The Jewel Ornament of Liberation
taught by Dharma Teachers Khedrub Zangmo and Julia Tenzin

The Jewel Ornament of Liberation is the quintessential teaching of Gampopa, Milarepa's heart disciple and the spiritual father of the Kagyu lineage. It explains the Mahayana path in a concise but thorough way.

The Jewel Ornament of Liberation combines the tradition of the Kadampa lineage, as handed down from Atisha, and the Mahamudra tradition of the great Mahasiddha Maitripa.

The Jewel Ornament of Liberation is the title of the text. What is this liberation all about?

Gampopa's text helps us question our way of seeing the world and understand the dissatisfaction and anxiety that goes with it. Gampopa allows us to open our eyes, tap the power of our minds, and free ourselves from limitations so that we can transform our world. This text is a manual of how to start one's study and practice on the Path, and it outlines every step to its final goal: liberation.

Tues. June 10

Khenpo Tsering Samdub: On the Path to Buddhahood
7pm-9pm     Neighborhhood Church, Classroom #4

Khenpo Tsering will teach selected topics from the Jewel Ornament of Liberation, the classic work about the Path to Buddhahood by Gampopa (1079-1153), founder of the Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism.

Gampopa, a physician from Dhagpo region in East Tibet, was the foremost student of the yogi-poet Milarepa. He is renowned for the clarity of his presentations and his knowledge of both Kadampa and Mahamudra methods.

Khenpo Tsering began his Buddhist studies at the Shri Karma Nalanda Institute at Rumtek in Sikkim, a college of higher Buddhist studies founded by the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa. After 9 years of study he received the degree of Acharya (Master of Philosophy) in 1990. Khenpo Tsering was sent by Shamar Rinpoche to teach at the Karmapa International Buddhist Institute in New Delhi for 6 years. In 2002, Shamar Rinpoche appointed him Headmaster of Shri Diwakar Vihara Buddhist Institute in Kalimpong. He is a regular visiting teacher to the Bodhi Path Centers in the United States.
