5th Dilyag Sabchu Rinpoche
visits three Bodhi Path Centers

Born in 1983, the 14th Kunzig Shamar Rinpoche recognized the infant as the 5th Dhilyag Sabchu Rinpoche. At age 5, he began the rigorous spiritual training accorded important reincarnate teachers. He spent his early years at the Sri Karma Raja Maha Vihar, a Karma Kagyu monastery in Swayambhu, Nepal. At age 10, he began studying advanced Buddhist philosophy and traditional meditation practices under the guidance of highly realized teachers from all four schools of Tibetan Buddhism. At 17, Sabchu Rinpoche began the traditional three-year retreat in Pharping, near the cave where the great saint Padmasambhava attained enlightenment. There he received all the oral transmissions and empowerments of the Karma Kagyu lineage under the guidance of Maniwa Lama Sherab Gyaltsen Rinpoche. Today, Sabchu Rinpoche serves as head of a meditation center in Seattle, WA and as co-head of Sri Karma Raja Maha Vihar. He teaches Buddhism throughout Asia and the US.

The Source of all of our problems as well as the source of all our solutions is to be found in the mind. Our capacity or incapacity to adapt to the world depends on our ability to connect with our own resources. Through discovery and introspection into the true nature of our mind we come to know how to heal our deep wounds and relate to the outer world from a position of altruism and wisdom.

Weekend Workshop: Vajrasattva Teaching and Empowerment Ceremony

Vajrasattva is an emanation of Buddha representing the purified nature of mind. The Vajrasattva meditation practice provides a powerful method for removing everyday conflicts and confusion that obscure mind's natural clarity. The empowerment ceremony is a traditional means of connecting to the lineage of practitioners who, since the time of the Buddha, have mastered this technique.

Dinner will be available Saturday before the evening session ($10).
Suggested donation for the whole weekend, including dinner $75, for Saturday afternoon or Sunday morning only: $30. For Saturday evening: $15. Work-exchange options available - contact us for details

Calm-Abiding Meditation

In Buddhism, the path to understanding is through meditation. One powerful practice is Shine, or calm abiding meditation. This practice naturally quiets the mind, which gradually leads to insight, understanding and clarity. As the busy, distracting, chatter in the mind subsides, limitless potential is revealed. Join us as Sabchu Rinpoche leads us into this profound practice.

PRESS RELEASE:

NEPAL'S "SINGING LAMA" TO VISIT PASADENA

Contact: Khedrub Zangmo; Julia Stenzel

PASADENA-A prominent Buddhist lama-and part-time recording artist from Nepal will be visiting Pasadena in early February to give a series of teachings on the power and common misconceptions about meditation, as well as the benefits of working with a spiritual mentor.

Sabchu (saab-chew) Rinpoche (rin-po-shay), 25, will give a free public lecture Thursday, Feb. 7, entitled "Meditation: It's Not What You Think." The talk will start at 7 p.m. at the Narthex conference hall at the Neighborhood Church, located at 301 N. Orange Grove Boulevard.

Rinpoche will also be giving a series of more intensive instructions on how practitioners of meditation can cultivate the correct attitude and state of mind for getting the most out of ancient mind-training techniques, which produce psychological equilibrium and enhance one's inherent spiritual awareness, or "Buddha nature."

Recognized as a realized master at age 3, Sabchu Rinpoche is working to bridge the ancient traditions of Tibetan Buddhism with the technological potential of 21st Century life.

He divides his time between Seattle, where he runs a meditation center, and Kathmandu, where he currently serves as regent of the Karma Kagyu monastery at Swyambhunath. The Karma Kagyu lineage with which he is affiliated stresses a mixture of study and dedicated practice, and is one of the four main schools of Tibetan Buddhism.

Besides his spiritual duties, Sabchu Rinpoche has also recorded an album of Buddhist-inspired lyrics; put to Nepalese melodies. The album, entitled " Dharma Dhwani," can be sampled at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TOn5fXHhysY.

His musical work has earned him the nickname "The Singing Lama."

"I don't expect to become a phenomenon, I just want to share my prayers through music," he said recently. "Technology is a big platform, we can use it to share and inspire peace of mind."

Rinpoche's visit is being sponsored by the Bodhi Path Center of Pasadena, one of an international group of Karma Kagyu meditation groups under the direction of Shamar Rinpoche, a high-ranking lineage master.

In addition to the lecture, Sabchu Rinpoche will be leading a weekend retreat, Feb. 9 and 10, on the benefits of working with spiritual masters. Sessions will be from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and 2 p.m. to 5 p.m Saturday; 2 p.m. to 5 p.m Sunday. The location for both days will be Room 4 of the Neighborhood Church. No pre-registration is necessary. Suggested donations are $35 per session, or $95 for the weekend.

Rinpoche will also be directing the Pasadena Bodhi Path's regularly scheduled Tuesday evening sessions, Feb. 5 and Sabchu Rinpoche Feb. 12. After conducting 45 minutes of meditation, he will present lessons on "The Spiritual Friend" and "Death and Impermanence"-based on the classic Buddhist Text The Jewel Ornament of Liberation, by Gampopa.

Classes are from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., also in Room 4 at the Neighborhood Church. Fee is $10 per session.
