Recognized by H. H. Kunzig Shamar Rinpoche, the 5th Dilyag Tulku Sabchu Rinpoche began a rigorous spiritual
journey at an early age. Rinpoche's early years were spent at the Sri Karma Raja Maha Vihar, a Karma Kagyu
monastery in Swayambhu, Nepal. As a child, he began higher Buddhist philosophy and traditional meditation
practices under the guidance of highly realized teachers from all four schools of Tibetan Buddhism. He
accomplished a traditional three-year retreat, where under the guidance of Venerable Maniwa Kyabje Lama
Sherab Gyaltsen he received the complete oral transmissions, pith instructions, and tantric empowerments
belonging to all four yogas of Tantra. At present, Sabchu Rinpoche travels the globe teaching Buddhist
meditation and philosophy. He is fluent in five languages.
The 3rd Sabchu Rinpoche served as a representative of His Holiness the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa in SKRMV
Monastery for many years until his death in 1976. He was very well known for his Mahamudra meditation
and as a holder of several rare lineages and was highly regarded by Karmapa. In early 1978, the 16th
Karmapa recognized a son of an exiled Tibetan family as the 4th Sabchu Rinpoche. However calamity
struck and he was hospitalized at infancy. The child passed away shortly afterwards. The same mother
conceived a child later who was recognized as the present 5th Dilyag Tulku Sabchu Rinpoche.
