The Las Cruces Home Builders Association (LCHBA) will award $50,400 to 13 local nonprofits at its Casa for a Cause awards banquet beginning at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 28 at the New Mexico Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum , 4100 Dripping Springs Road.
The money comes from the sale of the fifth LCHBA Casa for a Cause house, built by JMS Construction earlier this year. Each year, LCHBA invites nonprofit organizations to submit donation requests. This year, the LCHBA Board of Directors selected 13 nonprofit projects to fund from 32 applications submitted, said Nicole Black, CEO of LCHBA.
With the July 28 donations, LCHBA will have given $395,000 back to the community through Casa for a Cause, Black said.
The first Casa for a Casa, the 2014 LCHBA Anniversary House, was built by Hakes Brothers and gave back $64,000 to the community. The 2015 LCHBA Anniversary Home was built by Veloz Homes and donated $82,000. The 2017 LCHBA Anniversary Home was built by Arista Development and donated $74,000. The 2019 LCHBA Anniversary Home was built by Desert View Homes Home and gave back a record $125,000.
LCHBA was also able to complete the LCHBA Aggie Builder Endowed Scholarship at the New Mexico State University College of Business, which is awarded to a student who annually pursues a trade at NMSU, Black said.
LCHBA invited leaders of the nonprofit organizations receiving this year’s donations to the July 28 event, as well as LCHBA members, local businesses and community leaders and community members.
The Las Cruces Bulletin is a co-sponsor of the banquet. Music will be provided by Rudy Saenz.
