Our home designs under new ownership

HICKORY, NC — High-end upholstery fabric maker Our House Designs has been acquired by a private investment group. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Parker Maricich, who is among the investors, will serve as chairman, drawing on many years in the sales and marketing industry in retail and manufacturing, with roles at Robb & Stuckey, Century Furniture , Lexington Furniture, Gloster and JLA Furniture.

Acquired in 2001 by industry veteran Carrie Craymer, Our House Designs has established itself as a bespoke manufacturer of premium leather movable and stationary furniture. The company offers specialty retail and custom design groups a wide selection of offerings in the categories of recliners, sofas, sectionals and chairs, all built in North Carolina by skilled local craftsmen.

“This is an exciting opportunity for me and my group of investors to take an established brand with a dedicated workforce and expand the product line to better cater to the design and customization market,” said Maricich said in a statement. “I am delighted to work with experienced artisans who have demonstrated a passion for quality craftsmanship. I am committed to developing sustainable and socially responsible products as we grow this business. I am also excited to join the next generation of young industry veterans who will play a leading role in the furniture industry.

Carrie Craymer will continue as an advisor and brand ambassador for Our House Designs.

“This transaction will expand the vision of Our House Designs, bringing new resources and growth opportunities to benefit our employees and this community,” said Craymer. “I believe this transaction will strengthen Our House Designs and provide great opportunities for customers, employees and suppliers.”

In a phone interview, Maricich said the new owner is looking to take the small, historic manufacturer and grow more business through an expanded sales force and new product directions.

“Our plans are to use this as a base to expand it and build a bigger business,” he said. Our House “” has been building large, high-end furniture for years, and my plan is to fill the gaps in distribution with a larger sales force. They already have great customers, but they’re scattered, and we’re looking to focus on designers and specialty stores.

He added that one of Our House’s main objectives will be to protect customers in their market and aims to reduce lead times, which currently take up to six weeks, to four weeks.

“We’re also going to be partnering with furniture designers to update the line,” Maricich said. “Our house already does a great job with traditional furniture, and we’re going to expand that into transitional to update our styles.”

Our House Designs will continue its presence at the High Point Furniture Market with its showroom at 402 N. Wrenn St.

Stump & Co., based in Charlotte, North Carolina, represented the seller in the transaction.
